Railroad Cars Camping 2017

In 2017, before we went on the houseboat, Carleen and I decided to camp for a couple days before the houseboat. She had taken the extra time off of work and it was her birthday.
My Dad lives is Northern California so it was easy for him to come meet us.

Brent and I drove down early, but each took separate cars because Brent would be leaving the houseboat early for work.
When we arrived we checked in to our campsite and then hit the pool. One of the reasons we wanted this campground is because they had converted old train cars into mini yurt/apartment type rentals. In the center of the all the cabooses there was a pool. The campsite guests were able to use the pool too (during certain hours). Works for us!

First things first...camping selfie.

I took this picture to show Carleen we made it there and that the pool was fabulous....

Carleen sent me this picture to show me she was still heading South and that it was hot in the car

In the car on the way there in the very early AM

Brent had to pull over and sleep a little on the way there...he and Mitch were totally zonked out

Right next to our campsite was a little trail down to the creek.

My Dad showed up with all the fixings to make an amazing steak dinner to celebrate Carleen's birthday. He even brought his ginormous BBQ. It was soooo good.

All 10 of us eating at the table

Later we decided to go on a creek walk. We all scaled down the banks and walked down the creek until we found a neat little pool to swim in.

We brought a lot of extras since we wanted to make sure Emmett was entertained and contained. It always amazes me how well Brent can pack a car (or two) to get soo much stuff in.

This baby lizard kept the kids entertained for a good long while, until they let him go

The slack line made its annual appearance at our camping trips

We brought different options for Emmett to wear in the water, since he would be living in a life jacket all week on the houseboat

you can see the caboose cars and the smoky hillside in the distance....it's hard to remember a summer without wildfires lately
The creek was beautiful.
Full of rocks and wildlife.
Brent and I took turns carrying Emmett down and over the rocks.

there is a snake in this picture

Elysia in the pool we found

Boys and their sticks

And then we loaded up and went on our houseboat trip for a week...
