Coast 2018

Brent has resolved to do an epic trip with each of the boys once a year. This is supposed to be one of those memorable father son things that will live in infamy in the boys mind forever. We have done our individual dates with the boys, but they are the usual; movie, museum, hike, fishing, dinner, etc...
Brent wanted to do something big. So for his first efforts he booked a deep sea fishing excursion for he and Mitch. It was supposed to take place in July for Mitch's birthday.

They would leave on a boat out of Depot Bay and then go salmon fishing. He booked a campsite for two nights, as they had to dock the boat at 5am, and then he figured they would enjoy camping an extra night.

He booked the spots at Beverly Beach State Park. A place we used to frequent on an annual basis when the other boys were young. He got the spot right on the point closest to the beach. When they got in the car and were almost an hour out he received a phone call that they were canceling the fishing because it was too windy and the sea was too rough.

Brent called and asked me what he should do...
He decided to continue on and just have the camp, and that the rest of the boys and I would come and meet them the next day.

I got all the other boys loaded up and ready for an overnighter at the coast. I packed like it was going to be winter. The Oregon Coast in July feels like winter to me. In fact, that is why we stopped banking on having annual trips there. The weather was always miserable and cold. Don't get me wrong, we still go to the coast at least once a year...usually more. However, we do not make this our main camp spot.

Anyways, the boys and I headed out early the next morning to meet them. We ended up arriving around lunch time and meeting at Mo's. The boys all like the clam chowder in the cauldron thing. I like the view.

I realized once we got there, that although we both (Brent and I) thought that Emmett's big woolly boolly coat was in the cars, it was not. We went to the outlets and got him and August matching hoodies, and we picked Emmett up a new hat from the North Face store.

Then we headed to our campsite to play at the beach.

It. was. freezing.
It. was. ridiculously windy.
Oh my goodness......

But, it was also a blast.

Emmett didn't really want his hat on, so it was a game to keep it on his head and also keep it from blowing away.

In camp it was also super windy and our tent would not stay put. We decided to take it down and just sleep in the cars. Mitch and Bray slept in the Prius and the rest of us slept in the Acura....

Still such a beautiful spot

the boys packing the tent up and cleaning up the campsite

Emmett was on a long leash...

I was trying to keep my feet warm by the fire...

The next morning we decided to go check out some shops and Mitch did a glass blowing class in town there. I wanted pictures but Emmett had fallen asleep in the car and Brent refuses to take pictures anywhere...it's kind of his thing. It sounded pretty cool though and they mail the finished product to the house.

Anyways we all headed home after that, stopping here and there. We were going to stop at the casino for the seafood buffet, but we were all still full from lunch. So straight home it was.

Brent received a call towards the end of the summer to reschedule their adventure. Brent set it for the weekend at the end of September. This time on their way out they were told that it was no longer salmon fishing, but instead it was link cod and crab. As disappointed as we were to hear this, they went anyways and had a blast. And now our freezer is full of frozen crab and link cod...we are slowly working our way through.

Here are the only pictures the guys took of their epic fishing adventure...

this is when they got there in the AM
