As the kids get older and are more and more apart of the birthday celebration plans, they can tend to get fairly elaborate.
This year August wanted to spend his birthday at Oaks Park.
He also wanted donuts for breakfast and fireworks...but those things will have to wait.
His birthday is actually October 3rd, but Oaks Park closes for the Winter the last day of September. We chose to host his birthday the very last weekend in September.
Unfortunately, several of our family members could not make it.
It still ended up being awesome, and we had a blast.
We started out in the park next to Oaks Park at 11am.
I prepared a little lunch of meat and cheese crackers.
Grapes and apples,
and kale chips.
Also, Brent had made special cupcakes.
The picnic table was right there by the Willamette River.
It was pretty. Especially all of the work being done on the Sellwood Bridge.
We tried to have the boys go greet our guests as they started arriving.
Naturally the kids were pretty interested in the water and the dock.
Max wouldn't stop eating for me to take a good picture :) |
August had to find a a"big" stick |
I told Jen to look thoughtful |
August opened a couple presents... |
Cruncle Justin ran with the boys across the field. |
I tried to capture the "wall" of hair that appears on Charles head when he runs...too cute. |
It was soon time to sing happy birthday and head over to the park. The other park.
The one with rides...
After the cupcakes there was some leaf throwing...
August successfully broke his present before it was even out of its wrapper, by hitting a tree with it repeatedly.
The boat "waste away" drove by... |

We headed over to the amusement park and started having some real fun. (okay MORE fun)
I found it much harder to take pictures and chase after August than I thought it would be...
So, I kind of gave up.
Charles fell asleep on the Ferris wheel.
Go carts are always fun.
Took a second, but Bray finally smiled nicely in a picture.
After the kids rode the go carts, Papa decided it was his turn to drive them.
We let August "fish".
He puts the net in the water and pulls out the fish.
Then the lady scans them to see what they weigh.
Different weights determine the size of the stuff animal you get.
She told him he got to pick from the bottom row... |
We also decided to have our skate session.
It was a lot of fun. Both August and Brayden got pretty tuckered out after about two to three laps.
It was such fun party. What a great idea August had! We're ready to go back sometime soon!
