Almost every year there is an attempt made to "make" an ornament with the kids. We have done several in the past. The foam snowflakes the kids decorate with glue and glitter. (I LOVE glitter)
We have had glass bulbs that you pour different paint in and swirl it around. (these turned out cool)
Wine cork reindeer, clothespin reindeer, etc...
This year my mom initiated the making of snowmen. She purchased some dowels at a re-store and this simple act somehow put the idea in her head.
We were home for the weekend due to a lovely mid-December bug and normal fiscal restraints. We were supposed to be going to Portland to celebrate Shadow's 5th birthday. Still bummed...
Anyways, grandma pulled out her bags of tricks and helped the boys make their snowmen.
First she made one to be able to show the boys what it should look like.
I had to put him next to this nutcracker. I just love the green sequin suit!
First up to make the snowman was August. He always gets very reserved and concentrated when he works on projects. When the tongue comes out, you know he's serious.
The tongue is out!
He was very excited when it finally got the the face painting time. He was able to chose the color of the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Brayden was there to quickly start on his. He chose the items for the hat and scarf. He wanted his snowman to have purple eyes. (which grandma thought was a bit odd) Still, it was his creation...
His snowman looked like squidward on spongebob. His nose hung over his mouth.
Finally Mitchel started his snowman. A middle schooler's dream come true!
Of course Mitch made his super cool with sunglasses!
And here are some of the finished ones....
My mom noticed the one that looked like a vampire and fixed it!
And now the snowman family that will long live in a corner of our house during the Christmas season!
