After years of discussing and searching we finally bought a house.
The history behind our home search...
Back in 2002 when Brent and I first got married we had tried to purchase a house from Brent's grandmother. It was in Beaverton. It was a cute house with two bedrooms, bonus room, utility room, nice size backyard, etc... It had it's problems, along with being the same color pink as Pepto-bismol, but she refused to sell it to use for the $165,000 we offered her. Then we decided we did not really like Beaverton. We really wanted to be "out" of the bigger cities. We love the outskirts, the country, the small towns...
Fast forward to 2004, while pregnant with Brayden we were again house hunting. This time we were looking "out" a little more, near Sherwood or Cornelius. We found a home that we really loved after about 20 that we didn't. It was two story with three bedrooms on the main level and an attic type bonus room, and other cool features. Long story short, by the time we went to put in our bid it was gone...and we decided to wait, again!
To present day...
The past several years through our job changes, and having more children we refined our idea of what we would like.
Brent and I both wanted space. We have hopes of someday (soon) adopting or fostering kids. We both want land and small town environments. We ended up in Central Oregon while I am working towards my masters in teaching. We love it.
We decided this was where we would like to settle.
There are so many things that Central has to offer. We are surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes...
There is an abundant amount of rock climbing, water sports, hiking, camping, star gazing, wildlife viewing...
The best part is the seasons. It is considered the High Desert out here and so the weather patterns can be pretty extreme. It snows in the winter and is very hot in the summer. Fall and spring are just what you would expect...actual seasons. After living in the Portland area (which is gorgeous in its own right) you get accustomed to wet and wetter being the seasons.
Anyways, we searched and found something within our means that was perfect.
A ranch style house with plenty of room for our now and projected family.
Great yard, small town, and fun history.
The house was built in 1959. We were hesitant to buy an older house. Although when we were looking the houses we liked the most were the older ones. They had so much more character and craftsmanship than the newer houses. The family that bought this house in 1959 were the only owners. And they were actually craftsman. A couple hutches that were left in the house have their signatures on the back of them. In addition to all the custom built ins and very loved shop in the backyard we concluded that they must have been carpenters. It's a 4 bedroom with living room, family room, and bonus room. Two bathrooms, and a shop and she in the backyard. There are apple trees, crab apple trees, plum trees, and cherry trees in our yard. They attract the neighborhood deer and elk (videos added). The boys schools are right next to us and they are able to walk there in a matter of minutes.
They all have their own space and the best part is we do not have to uproot and move again. At least for a long while we can plan on staying right where we are. And that is a wonderful feeling.
