Brent Deer

who's that handsome guy there?

This is a noteworthy thing...
Brent finally got invited to go hunting with his uncle. This was pretty awesome for him for many reason:
  1. the man works like a maniac (like 80 hour weeks) all the time
  2. he really, really has wanted to go...like f-o-r-e-v-e-r
  3. he wanted to go at least once before he takes our boys
  4. we love the meat
  5. it's like an extended man vacation, since it was just the guys. Especially his brother Max. Brent misses hanging out with him.
I'm sure there are more smaller reasons, but those were the big ones.
This hunting trip included Jay and Evan, Brent's uncles and Max his brother. The trip got off to an interesting start. Planning it was hard. It was one of those things where it was hard to get a straight answer from him, because he couldn't get a straight answer from anyone...
It was going to start this day (Friday)
then that day (Saturday),
then morning (Saturday)
then that night (Saturday)?

Well it ended up Brent leaving at 2:00AM (Sunday) to meet up with them. By the time they got to his uncles place it was 6AM...but then the trip started!
After some instructional demonstrations and a mini tour of his uncles property they were ready to hunt.
It sounds like all but one of them filled their tag. Brent got a 2x3 the day they were leaving. Apparently they named these things once they shot them. His was Douglas. Max got Rocco. It was cool to hear the whole "hunting" story. With walkie-talkie communication and stealthy-ness. I could just picture Brent and Max crawling around through sage brush, under juniper trees trying to get close enough for a shot. Brent then described the steps necessary to get the deer ready for the meat market. Cutting things out and off...yeah, I can't wait to get invited now :)
We now have a better idea of what gear is needed for hunting, especially with crazy Central Oregon weather. It said the weather was supposed to be sunny that week, as soon as he left there was rain and snow in the forecast! Just their luck.
So, after about 5 days he returned home. He got here around midnight and we stayed up until 2AM cutting up pieces of back-strap and tenderloin meat(?) Not my most favorite part. He pulled out the head to show me. He's trying to decide whether to mount the whole thing or just the antlers. While showing me the head, and the tongue sticking out, he noticed the ticks crawling around...again, awesome.
It was nice to see him relaxed and happy. (until he got up at5AM and worked open to close that same day) *love my hard workin' man*

I can't wait for the boys to have the patience to actually go hunting, or even fishing!
