Snow and stuff

 Walking in a winter wonderland...already!

Yes, we got our first snow of the year.
And, I do not care how long we live here, every time it snows I still get excited.

I love the quiet that accompanies the snow.
Just sitting there in the stillness.
So quiet you can hear the snowflakes falling,
touching the soft ground.
Ahhh, I just love it.

Everything is dusted with sparkles, it is so pure, so clean...

And then the kids get into it!
This year Mitch and Brayden actually got to have "snow days".
Usually snow on the ground does not stop anything, but this year they already have gotten two snow days...and we still haven't hit the heavy snow season. Crazy.
They sure enjoy it.

(The snow is still hanging around here too...and it has been over a week.)
August was so excited to go out and jump on the trampoline.

The snow was so heavy there was not much of a "spring" when he jumped.

trying to show the hair cicles that were forming...can't see them though. Just a weird snow selfie.

Inside the festive fall stuff reminded me it was not yet Christmas...

Made potato soup for the cold weather...

Played some board games...

The boys played patty-cake.

Which quickly turned into "slapping each other"...UGH!

It started to thaw...and then changed its mind...

Bray retrieving his snowboarding coat.

I just missed the deer running across the lawn, but I got the hoof prints.

A couple pictures from around town, trying to capture the icicles that were on everything.

My drive to Bend

The Prius didn't stand a chance...

Brent, deciding he needs to shovel the walkway...and uncover our stairs.

He's a shoveling fool, watch the snow fly like crazy.

I love when I finally get to wear all of my scarves.

Brent, for a second contemplating the MUSTACHIO...Then shaved it off!

August was pretending he was a bird, "feeding" his chicks. He would get snow in his mouth and spit it out for his babies.

A couple checks on the weather...
It keeps dipping in the negatives.

Building Volcanoes

One great thing about Grandmas and Grandpas, they always have the neatest activities to do with the kids.  They also have experience with patience and flexibility when things do not quite turn out the way they were planned (a valuable skill when teaching children).
This day in particular, Grandma brought home some clay for August to make his own mini volcano.
The exploding volcano was a favorite of mine in my childhood.
August loves science.
He had a lot of fun repeatedly exploding it for us.
He is expressing himself so much more, which if you know him is hard to believe.

Of course, his brothers wanted in on the action.
Grandma is going to be bringing home a recipe for a GIANT volcano sometime soon.

As for now, the mini kept them entertained for days...
