I made a deal with Bray that if he did basketball now, this spring I would drive him into Redmond for swimming lessons. I did this for several reasons, but really it was a conversation Brent and I had the last time we were in Portland. We drove by our old house and consequently found ourselves commuting near the old recreation center that the boys used to go to. We realized we had been commuting a handful of miles for close to 20mins. Brent brought up the fact that now where we live the indoor swimming rec center is around 19 miles away, but it would not take any longer than we used to commute. Although the old place was maybe 5-7 miles from our house, it took FOREVER to navigate Tigard that time of night to get to the lessons.
So, with that logic, there was no reason to NOT take the boys to get their swim on!
Bray is reluctant to play basketball. He has no idea what he is doing, really.
I think he enjoys it, but I get anxiety watching the sheer panic he feels when the ball ends up in his hands. He barely dribbles. He just passes it as soon as he can.
We're going to work on this!
Still, I love when they try new things and really embrace their teammates.
So far they have played 2 games and have won both.
I am hoping they are learning humility and sportsmanship, but it may take a loss to really let it sink in. The team is mostly 3rd-5th graders of varying skills.
Again, that is lovely so Bray doesn't feel completely out of place.
I am thankful for the ability to attend these games. Last year every Tuesday and Thursday night I had class. So, this is a treat for sure.
Such a cute team!
